Forces Of Nature - The beginning.

Here at Pen y Bryn Farm and Holiday Cottages We are really lucky to be located on over 25 acres of beautiful farmland. Nestled in the rolling green hills of the beautiful North Wales Countryside, the landscape includes lush grazing land, wildlife rich ponds and beautiful, well established gardens - displaying a full palette of rich colours and textures backed with the harmonious soundtrack of tweeting birds and the breeze rushing through the leaves.

From the huge trees climbing high up into the sky to the tiniest bug creeping out from a crack, Pen y Bryn is full of nature to explore and observe. The landscape changes on a daily basis, with the changing seasons, plants and wildlife come and go- along with our holiday guests. But no matter what the weather outside is like, one thing remains the same, it is a naturally beautiful place to be.

Forces of Nature is a brand new project beginning in Spring 2018 where we will be hosting the members of Veterans Shed Conwy along with members of the local community to take part in various projects around the farm.

Veterans Shed Conwy are a local, Self funded cooperative set up in 2016 by veterans who at the time were working as mentors with a local charity providing support for other veterans in the area. After working in this role for some time they identified a need for a project that would bring members of the veteran community together with members of the local community, allowing them to engage with like minded people and get involved with projects that are of personal interest to them. You can read more about how they started on their website by clicking this link.

They also offer help, support and signposting with many issues faced by ex service men and women within the local community. They hold weekly drop-ins where you can pop in for a brew and a chat with like minded people. In addition to this they also offer the opportunity to get involved with a variety of volunteer projects in the local area providing new experiences, the chance to meet new people, gain skills and qualifications in a range of environments. Supported by Veterans Hub and CVSC (Conwy Voluntary Services Council) they have already completed lots of community projects in the local area which you can read about on their website. They also work with Crest Cooperative in Colwyn Bay and Llandudno Junction where they create bespoke furniture and up-cycling projects each week. You can read more about this and see some of the fantastic items they have created here.

Forces of Nature will offer the Veterans the opportunity to get involved in lots more outdoor projects which they can tailor to suit their own personal interests. Pen y Bryn offers a great stage to enjoy the outdoors and lends itself to a huge range of activities. Weather they want to get stuck in or sit back and watch it’s the perfect environment to enjoy the outdoors.

In addition to our Fishing ponds project where the veterans will be working on clearing, restocking and managing the fishing ponds and surrounding ditches at Pen y Bryn they will also be able to enjoy a wide variety of sporting activities, arts and crafts, gardening, animal husbandry, farming and bee keeping as the project grows.

Work starts this week on setting up a temporary base for the group to use whilst visiting for the day. We will be joined by several members of the Veterans Shed Conwy and WRAC (Women’s Royal Army Corps) who will be clearing up an old caravan so they have a clean dry space to stop for a cup of tea during work. Please keep following our blog for further information and updates on this. If you would like to get involved please contact the Veterans Shed, If you would like to make a donation to the Veterans shed please click here.
