Pen-Y-Bryn Farm - Proud Supporters Of Armed Forces Day 2018

This year, Armed Forces Day will be held near to our farm in the stunning, seaside resort of Llandudno. On Saturday the 30th of June, the tenth annual Armed Forces Day will be supported by the MOD (Ministry of Defence), alongside the Welsh Government and Conwy Borough Council. Whether you are visiting Llandudno to celebrate the day or would like to show your support for our brave men and women online, the following are a few suggestions of ways to raise money for the continued support and well-being of our Military personnel and their families.

Help for Heroes offer a variety of ways that you can support them throughout the year, alongside making a charitable donation. The Spring edition of Heroes magazine lists several suggestions, including:

  • 6p per pint and 5p per bottle of Robinson and rock band Iron Maiden's latest ale – Light Brigade. This is the second collaboration, after the success of their first offering, Trooper Beer, five years ago. For more information, please click here to visit www.ironmaidenbeer.com.

  • Online florists, Flying Flowers, donate 15% from the sale of each bouquet and floral arrangement from their specially crafted Help for Heroes collection. Over the last two years, members of the Help for Heroes Band of Sisters have designed the range, with each bouquet telling a different story. For more information, please click here to visit www.flowersforheroes.co.uk.

  • Specifically for Armed Forces Day, Help for Heroes encourage the nation to don their aprons and Bake for Heroes. This year it will take place from 23rd June to 1st July, and is supported by former Great British Bake Off contestant Sandy Docherty. In Heroes magazine, Sandy says, “Baking has a universal language and barriers can be broken down when we share and cook together.” To take part, click here to visit www.bakeforheroes.org.uk.

Conwy Government's website has shared some exciting news about the day. The website says, “Staged across the county between 25th June and 1st July, the week of events will include a flag-raising ceremony, Reserves’ Day, a gala dinner at Venue Cymru, and military parade on the main day in Llandudno on 30th June. There will also be a showcase of military vehicles, including helicopters, boats, and planes.”

Local to us, and with lots of exciting new initiatives with us in the pipeline, are Veteran's Shed UK, in Colwyn Bay. The Vet's Shed (some members are pictured above at a recent meeting we held) are offering another way to support our troops this year, by donating shoe box items for the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards who are due to deploy to Afghanistan from April 2018 for an 8 month tour. Items can be dropped off at The Veterans' Shed, 22 Station Road, Colwyn Bay, by the end of April. All items donated will be greatly appreciated but do please bear in mind that alcoholic beverages and items that may offend the host country are not allowed. For more information, please click here to visit http://veteranssheduk.com/.

Armed Forces Day is always going to be a subject that is close to our hearts here at Pen-y-Bryn Farm and supporting soldiers, veterans and their families is something we are passionate about. We have signed up to the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant (please click here for more information) and offer a 10% discount to any serving or former member of the British Armed Forces and all NHS Staff (proof of ID is required).

If you are planning to visit Llandudno and support Armed Forces Day in person, take a look at the availability of our four Holiday Cottages and Farmhouse by clicking here. You can find out more about our Holiday Cottages, two of which are pet friendly, and our large Farmhouse, which is also pet friendly, by clicking here. However you plan to support our troops and their families, let's make this Armed Forces Day the best one so far.
