Family Holiday Diary - Part One

With half term approaching, we decided to book a family holiday in North Wales. We had been to visit a few castles in the area recently as our youngest child was learning about them last term. We had a great day out and there were so many other things we wanted to see and do.

We have stayed at Pen-y-Bryn Farm & Holiday Cottages before and it offered everything we were looking for – a great cottage that is set in peaceful grounds but still only a short drive away from Conwy, Llandudno, Snowdonia and other places we would be visiting.

We hope the following Holiday Diary will give you a taste of our break and show you a little of what North Wales has to offer. We found plenty for the whole family to do – even when my parents joined us for two nights. We can't wait for our next visit!

The car is bursting with possessions, the kids are fighting over elbow room and I can barely move my legs even though, at 5ft tall, leg room is not usually an issue for me. We're off and yes, you've guessed it – it's holiday time and we can't wait. Abergele, here we come!

We arrive at Lavender Cottage to find a few welcome treats waiting for us alongside our welcome pack. There is a business card with a lovely note from Michelle telling us to make ourselves at home. My husband sticks the kettle on (tea, coffee, milk and sugar are provided for us) while I admire the vase of fresh flowers in the lounge area. Our welcome pack tells us everything we need to know about our cottage and the farm itself. It also has a useful set of telephone numbers, a diagram of our surroundings and information about the cooker and central heating system. There are even a pack of Welsh cakes with some butter and jam put out for us on the dining table!

After unpacking we head out for a drive around the local area. The views surrounding us are stunning. Farmers fields, hills and valleys covered with animals and flowers greet us around every corner and and as we head into Abergele there are shrieks from the back of the car as the sea comes into view! After a spot of shopping at the local Tesco, we head back to the cottages and prepare for a “quiet” night in front of the TV. We have a walk around the farm after tea and make the most of the last bit of sunshine. The girls hand feed the goats and sheep that are part of the farms many pets. It's such a lovely spot and we have all enjoyed our first day in Wales. We make our way back to the cottage in time for Britain's Got Talent and I am pleasantly surprised at the amount of space we all have to get comfy. Armed with microwave popcorn served in the two huge bowls we found in the kitchen, we settle down for the night. We are happy to report that Britain does have talent!
