Family Holiday Diary - Part Three

This blog is the third in our 6 part series. To read part one, please click here. To read part two, please click here.
We all had a lie in this morning which was a rare and lovely treat! We have our breakfast and go to see the animals. It's a lovely day again. The views from the farm are spectacular and I could happily stand here looking around me all day.
After a quick lunch at the cottage, we take a drive through Snowdonia and head off to see Bardsey Island. It is one of the locations in a book by my favourite Author, Mark Billingham. After reading The Bones Beneath I googled the Welsh island and wanted to see it for myself. The hour drive through Snowdonia to Bardsey is breathtaking. The rain starts half way there and really brings out the scent of all the trees. The roads wind their way upwards through the hills and the mist descends. The girls are amazed to be driving through the clouds!
We reach Aberdaron and go to a local pub, Gwesty Ty Newydd Hotel, for afternoon tea. The lovely young lady behind the bar serves us warm scones with jam and clotted cream, chocolate brownies, teacakes and syrup sponge with custard. We sit by the window and look out at the sea. We watch the waves crashing onto the beach and realise that we probably won't get a good view of the island. We finish up and, after asking directions, we get back into the car and slowly make our way to the end of the road. We can just make out the outline of Bardsey Island in the fog. There is no chance of the weather changing any time soon so I brave the torrential rain to take a couple of photo's and we make our way back to Abergele. It's been a lovely afternoon and we'll come again one day when the weather is a little more suited to island spotting!
Back in Abergele, we try out a pub that has been recommended to us, The Bull Hotel. We find a table in the corner and order our drinks. The fire is lit which takes the slight chill out of the air and when he brings our drinks over, Craig, one of the owners, advises us to move to a bigger table before our food arrives. He wasn't wrong! The children have ordered lasagne, spaghetti bolognese and chicken nuggets. For the grown-ups, it's burgers. Mine comes with blue cheese, bacon, chips and salad while Dave has a Mexican burger which has chilli and nachos with dips. The food is absolutely delicious. The portions are generous and we all struggle to finish. The chef, Jamie, comes out to meet us. After a few minutes the girls realise that Craig and Jamie have a dog. Jamie brings out Frank the pug and the girls adore him. The bill for our five meals and seven drinks is a very reasonable £56. We've really enjoyed our evening. Craig and Jamie have made us all feel so welcome and we'll definitely be back here again this week!
